SSQG August 18, 2011 Meeting Minutes

Sassi Strippers Quilt Guild Meeting Minutes                                                                         
August 18, 2011                                                                                                   
                                                                                                                                                                                                                        
        Vice President Becky Fincher opened the meeting at 6:30 pm in the place of President Linda Baumann .
                                                                                                                                                                                                                           
        Secretary’s minutes of July meeting were approved as written by Betty Braud as acting secretary.                                                                                             
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          
        Treasurer Paula St. Romain reported a guild balance of $997.14, stating she had received receipts for expenses & cash for new members. Report was approved.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                          
        Charity quilts were discussed. The quilts still on display will be presented to Braveheart & Habitat for Humanity at a later date after our quilt show items are taken                                                                                                           .     down on Aug. 27 from 9 until 12. Members may pick up their quilts & other items that were displayed between 1 & 3 that afternoon. A room will be assigned to receive
      all personal property entered in the show once it is matched to each member’s entry form listing.                                                                                            
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        
         A wonderful job was done by those who worked to make the show a success! President Linda Baumann for her encouragement, Show Chair Becky Fincher, Co-                                                        
      Chair Glenda Parks, Publicity Chair Valerie Barth, Organizational Chair Valerie Valley & each & all members for their pride of entering their work in the show!
      It took all of us to do the task well. Thanks to everyone, the show was a complete success! Becky spoke with library employees who loved having all the art
      with its color around them & their glowing reports form the general public who visited. A guest book was put out for those attending the show to sign and many
      compliments were given.          Becky Fincher & Valerie Barth appeared on the noon Channel 9 news with Diane Deaton interviewing them about the SSQG Quilt Show for the month of Aug. 2011.
      While discussing the show they showed the audience antique & our charity quilts. A job well done!                                                                                         
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          
          Visitors were invited to cast one vote for their favorite quilt in the show on our Open House Demo Day Saturday Aug. 6. Results were #1 Merlene Lewis, #2 Karol
       Guidry & #3 Jessie Comeaux.                                                                                                                                                                                            
                                                                                                                                                                                                                           
           Valarie Barth Wonky House quilt blocks that members brought to the meeting & stated that more of the blocks were needed now to sew together our charity raffle                              
       Quilt for Habitat for Humanity due in mid October. She set two Saturday sew dates to sew the blocks into the quilt:                                               
                                  Sat.           Betty Braud presented a program to illustrate the preparation of a quilt sleeve to sew by hand to the top back of our quilts for hanging purposes. She showed many  
       examples of quilt sleeve construction & explained the preferred preparation. She brought copies of internet instructions to  share. More may be obtained from Libby

          Paula St. Romain thanked everyone for their kindness extended to her with the loss of her Mother. It was most comforting to her.                                             
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        
          Merlene showed little bears in three sizes that her former guild in Virginia made & donated to hospitals for children & neonatal units to see if members would like
       to make them to donate locally. Discussion was held & Merlene will present again at November meeting in order to have members vote on the project.

                             Pat Patton of Zachary’s Honey Bees Guild is sponsoring a bus to Houston’s International Quilt Show leaving Wednesday Nov. 2 & returning Thurs.nite              .                 Nov. 3. The price is $194 from Baton Rouge based on double occupancy & includes deluxe motor coach with rest room, 1 nite hotel, entrance fees, breakfast
                   daily, 1 year membership to Quilting Association, all taxes & tips, including driver. Itinerary-WED. Motor coach from Zachary, Baton Rouge, on I-10 with pick-
                   ups along the way. Arrive in Houston around 2pm. Spend the afternoon at the preview of the 2011 Quilting Festival.     THURSDAY: We will check out of hotel

                              Welcome members Madeline Monroe & Stacey Cooper.                                Kathy Brown will be with us to present our September program. She has designed fabric lines for Troy & is now designing popular lines for Red  
                    Rooster. Martingale is the publisher of her books & her many patterns she publishes personally under her “The Teacher’s Pet”. Please bring the Kathy    
                    Brown Quilts you have made to show at he meeting along with the others you wish to show. Kathy will enjoy seeing the quilts we have made with her
                   patterns. She’ll be bringing many things to show & share with us.                                                                                                       
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       
                                 Our Jan Delgehausen will be presenting our October program sharing how she makes her beautiful Christmas ornaments. We will come ready to
