   7. Tabs (Sharon H.) - Tabs were delivered on May 22 to the Ronald McDonald House. Members were treated to a tour of the facility then visited Mes Amis Quilt Shop, an ice cream shop, and Harbor Seafood for lunch.
   8. Door Prizes (Valerie K.) - Marilyn, Elsie, Jessie
   9. Just Do It (Cheryl M.) Suggestion to attend the Krotz Springs Quilt Show on Saturday, July 13. $1 donation to attend plus vendors to visit.
   10. Quilt Show (SSQG membership) – All quilts should be to Sharon’s house no later than Monday, June 24. Hanging of the quilts will be Saturday, June 29. Take down will be Monday, July 29. The hydraulic lift has been requested both days. Volunteers Bill and Peggy will assist. Demonstration Day will be Saturday, July 20 from 10 am to 2 pm.
   11. Charity Quilts (Merlene L. & Karen W.) 15 charity quilts have been donated so far. Merlene showed more examples and brought panels for members to make quick quilts. 186 bear skins are ready to be stuffed on Demo Day.

12. Red/White/Blue Quilts (Sharon H./Mynan G.) 6 members and one guest delivered 20 quilts to the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, LA on June 21. This time the veterans were assembled in the cafeteria for the presentations. Photos are posted on both the Sassi Strippers Facebook and Blog pages.

2. New business – Kathy Brown is selling her stash. See her website at https://www.the-teachers-pet.com/ . Shop Hop at area quilt shops will be the last weekend in July and the first weekend in August. Cheryl distributed bookmarks with dates and places. Row by Row has begun at quilt shops across the country.
3. Program – Cheryl presented a program of techniques she learned at the Gulf States Quilting Association POE/Pursuit of Excellence class. Techniques included curved piecing, fold-up fabric thread/scrap catcher, and a cathedral window-type block.
4. Show and Tell – Jessie, Merlene, Elsie, Fran, Karen. Karen has been invited to submit 12”X12” quilted pieces for the Little Treasures Display at the new OLOL Children’s Hospital which will open in the Fall. There will be 110 art pieces in the collection.
5. Announcements –
   1. Next meeting – Thursday, July 18, 2019 which is 2 days before Demo Day. Members should bring ideas for table demonstrations or just bring equipment on Demo Day to show sewing/quilting/crafting skills. Visitors can participate in the following activities: Kids Draw for Kids, Stuff a Bear, create with felt squares, and iron on to squares.

Quilt Show Cancelled

Hello,

I received a call yesterday from Ms. Gayle at the library. She had just been informed that the contractors will be starting demolition at the library in July instead of August. The library will be closed July 9, 17 and 18. I have contacted the members of your Board and it has been decided that we will not have the quilt show or demo day this year due to the dust, debris and safety issues associated with a demolition of this magnitude. 

You may begin contacting Sharon Holder this coming Monday, July 1st to make arrangements to pick up your quilts and other items. 

I have made arrangements with Broadmoor Methodist Church for us to have our July meeting there since the library will be closed. We will meet there for the next 18 - 24 months, depending on when the library remodel is finished. The address is 10230 Mollylea Dr, Baton Rouge, LA 70815. We will meet in the AEB (Auxillary Education Bldg) Room 105, July 18 at 6:30 p.m. 

I will include parking directions with the minutes before the meeting. 

Thank you to everyone who has helped put this show together, whether you entered an item for the show, or volunteered your time for preparations and set up. All of your efforts are sincerely appreciated, even if we weren't able to have the show this year.

June Show and Tell

Red, White and Blue quilts

20 red, white, and blue quilts  were delivered to the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, LA.

June Meeting -- June 20, 2019

Hi All, 

Just a reminder:  We will be meeting this Thursday, June 20 at 9:45 a.m. at the O'Neil Hobby Lobby to take the quilts to the Veteran's Home in Jackson, LA. We will have lunch somewhere along the way back to Baton Rouge. If you are planning on joining us and you have not already told me, please respond to this email so we can be sure to have enough room for everyone to go. 

Also, we will have our regular monthly meeting the same Thursday, June 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Jones Creek Library. We will be focusing on  the upcoming quilt show and demo day. The minutes from our May meeting are attached for your review. 

**Please bring your quilts if you have not already taken them to Sharon Holder's house. If you have items for the display cases and you won't be able to help us hang quilts on June 29, please bring your items and I will take responsibility for them.

5. Unfinished Projects (UFOs – Mynan G. ) - Donna, Karen, Andrea G. shared finished UFOs. The prize basket was not at this meeting, so they will be able to pick something from the basket at a future meeting.
6. Tabs (Sharon H.) - The Youth at First Baptist in Denham Springs is now collecting tabs for us. The delivery to Ronald McDonald House will be Wednesday, May 22.

8. Just Do It (Cheryl M.) - Merlene, Monette and Karen reported on the trip they took to several quilt shops and the quilt show in Mobile, AL last month.

i) Quilt Show (SSQG membership) - The Kaleidoscope of Quilts will be in July this year because of remodeling of the Jones Creek Library beginning in August. The quilts will be hung on Saturday, June 29, beginning at 9 a.m. There may be less space for the quilts to be hung this year. Sharon H. will store member’s quilts until Hanging Day. Preference is for newer quilts (last 2 years) and those that have not hung before. Sleeves need to be attached to the back of each quilt. An entry form (found at https://sassistrippersquiltguild.blogspot.com/ ) must be attached to each quilt. Also, be sure to indicate the size of the quilt on the entry form (width X length). Demo Day will be Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

j) Charity Quilts (Merlene L. & Karen W.) - Still collecting charity quilts.

k) Red/White/Blue Quilts (Sharon H./Mynan G.) - Quilts will be delivered to the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson LA on Thursday, June 20.

5. Unfinished Business - Cheryl has arranged for the guild to meet at Broadmoor United Methodist Church,10230 Molly Lea Drive, Room #5 beginning in August while the Jones Creek Library is undergoing renovations. We will have to be out of the building by 8:30 p.m. each meeting.

May Show and Tell

May Meeting -- 5/16/19

Hi All,

Well, it looks like Mother Nature will let us have our meeting this month. We will be meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Jones Creek Library this Thursday, May 16. 

Linda B. will show us how to make her adorable fabric wreath. The supply list is attached for those who still need to pick up supplies. 

Our annual quilt show will hang in the Jones Creek Library in JULY this year since they will begin construction in August. You may start bringing your quilts at the May meeting and/or take them to Sharon Holder's house. She offered to be our staging area to make it easier for everyone since I'm out in Denham Springs. Thank you Sharon!

  (Purchase @ Dollar Tree)
*Fabric Scissors 
*Long Ruler   (Just to mark inches)
*About 2 1/2 yards of  fabric for a 14" wreath   
**2.5 yards of fabric divided by the numbers of color choices.  (Example:  if 
     you plan to use 5 fabrics, you would need a 1/2 of a yard each)
*A 16" wreath (You might need a little more fabric)

April Meeting CANCELLED

Hi,

I just received word from Jones Creek Library that they will be closed tomorrow due to the upcoming storm we are expecting. Due to this and the danger of the situation the April meeting is cancelled. 

We will do fabric wreaths at a later meeting when Linda is available. 

I will send out information for the overnight trip May 3 and 4 in the next couple days.

   4. Historian/Blog site (Elsie H.) - Elsie showed photos from The Giving Quilt Show stuff-a-bear table. Since the SSQG Blogspot will no longer be able to host large numbers of photos, Pam will try to set up a group Facebook page for Sassi Strippers Quilt Guild members.
   5. Unfinished Projects (UFOs – Mynan) – Elsie showed a UFO and selected an item from the basket. Betty and Valerie selected items for showing UFOs at a previous meeting.
   6. Tabs (Mynan G.) – Mynan can deliver tabs to the Ronald McDonald house on April 26 or May 10. Cheryl will send a group email to find out who can accompany Mynan.
   7. Door Prizes (Valerie K.) - Cheryl, Betty, Karol.
   8. Just Do It (SSQG membership) – Potential drivers for the May 3^rd and 4^th overnight trip to quilt stores in Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida are Sharon H., Mynan and Valerie. Eleven members are currently planning to attend. Plans will be finalized at the April meeting.
   9. Quilt Show (SSQG membership) – Cheryl will verify with Miss Yvonne at the Jones Creek Library that the show will hang in July.
   10. Charity Quilts (Merlene L. & Karen W.) Both were absent. Nothing new to report.
   11. Red/white/blue quilts – A date will be set at the April meeting for delivery in May of about 20 quilts to the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, LA.
5. Unfinished Business – Finding a meeting place while the Jones Creek Library is undergoing renovation has been challenging. Cheryl has checked into all the suggestions that members have made but with no success. The Denham Springs Library has been booked for the August meeting if no other meeting place can be found. More suggestions were made and Mynan will call Vineyard Church as a possibility.
6. New business – The Broadmoor United Methodist Church garage sale is April 27 at corner Sharp Rd and Mollylea Drive.
7. Program – Elsie: Tea Dyeing and the Fauxgello class experience. Elsie showed a beautiful quilt that replaces a quilt lost in the flood of 2016. She explained how to Tea Dye fabric to get the color of fabric she needed to complete the quilt. Cheryl, Betty, Valerie and Sharon H. showed their quilts and explained the method of creating a Fauxgello quilt pattern from striped fabric. They had taken a class during The Giving Quilt Show.
