Minutes for the August 2010 Meeting at Jones Creek Library

Sassi StrippersQuilting Guild August 19, 2919 Meeting Minutes


Meeting was called at to order at 6:3OPM

by Vice President Becky Fincher for President Linda Baumann who has a college class that lets out at 6:15pm
Secretary & Treasurer reports were approved as delivered. The treasury stands at $940.36 after expenses incurred from the guild quilt show. More expenses will be submitted.

Paula St. Romain Distributed copies of our guild roster to all in attendance. Thank you Paula for an awesome job. We thank and appreciate you. Now we ladies will be able to get in touch with each other easily! Kudos!

A total of 8 guests were in attendance. Carol Mendoza, Joanie Devilbiss, Beverly Amedee, Kathy Campo, Mary Bavier, Joyce Jensen,and Glenda Bionche. Al said they learned about our guild & meeting thru seeing our quilt show, newspaper write up & picture, announcement in the fun section and the wonderful Interview Becky & Valarie Barth conducted with Diane Deaton on the channel 9 morning show 8-19-2010 to publicize our guild quilt show & welcome visitors to our meetings. Beautifully accomplished!

Our program was postponed as our local designer Paula Toups injured her back at the last moment. Hopefully, She's feeling more comfortable now. She plans to present her program to us next month. We look forward to having her with us then.

Becky Fincher, Quilt Show chairwoman, announced quilts will come down Aug. 27th.

SSQG voted to award Kevin who helped hang quilts for the show from the ceilings on a 10ft. ladder with a token of our appreciation for his hard work, patience and perseverance. He was very easy to work with & did an outstanding job, enabling the show to be set in it's best possible settings.
Ginny Hughes & SSQG will get together for a sew day on an up coming Saturday. Ginny will e-mail the date when it is decided.

Valerie Valle sent the SSQG Blog address it is http://sassistrippersquiltguild.blogspot.com. Explaining how the blog works, Valarie said to contact Linda Baumann, Glenda Parks or herself to ask questions, post happenings, pictures, info, news & Etc. Valerie loaded our quilt show pictures, our channel 9 morning show program in it's entirety, charity project info. & other items we are interested in. Check it out....... Thank you, Valerie. She showed the meeting members the morning show segment w/ Diane Deaton, Becky & Valarie Barth on her laptop.

Fat Quarters brought to the meeting by members winner was Linda Baumann. Let's try to remember to bring 1 or 2 fat Quarters to our next meeting September 16th. The limit per member is 2 fat quarters as for each fat quarter you bring your name goes into the hat & the drawn name wins all of them. So please bring HALLOWEEN fat qtrs. to the meeting on 9 - 16!!!

Mystery Quilts were shown by Jessie Comeaux and Valarie Barth! Valerie brought full copies of her mystery quilt for those who had not received the entire listing of clues. It's a two color quilt, possibly a good one to learn to quilt. It is also the Louisiana block! Thank you Valerie for providing the guild with a great mystery to solve & something pretty to remember our guild pleasantly by. You are the best, Valarie! We hope to see more mystery quilts soon as they are finished!

Unfinished projects (UFO'S) -- Please list yours & send the list to Jessie at jcomquilt@yahoo.com As you finish a project notify her as she is keeping guild participant records & at the end of the year there will be a prize. Ask her all about it.

New & used greeting cards-- please bring in to Valerie Barth who in turn sends them in to St. Jude's Ranch where the children w/cancer put the fronts to good use. Ask Valerie about this, it's very worthwhile!

Karol asked who in the guild would like to be part of a retreat at Pam's Place in the not to distant future.The retreat three bedroom brick home is located on Aubin Lane Just off Sherwood Forest Blvd & I 12. You turn in between McDonald's & Burger King (S. First. Blvd), then turn between Billy Heroman Florist & Reeves Shopping Center, it's the 4th house on the left. All you need to bring are the clothes you wish to have for the 3 comfortable days & 2 nights, what you wish to work on while you are there, your sewing machine & basic sewing supplies, Twin sheet set or double sheet if you'd rather have a double bed (2 Available), towel, wash cloth, toiletries, soap, shampoo, what you would like to drink while you're there, a meal, possibly a one dish cooked already so you only have to to heat & serve & a treat yummy surprise to share w/the group. Meals will be chosen close to arrival date. the meals will be Fri. lunch & dinner;,Sat. Breakfast, lunch & dinner; Sun, breakfast & sometimes lunch is clean out the ice box of left overs. The cost is $70 whether you sleep there or not. Everything is there that you might need and the lighting is superior. You don't have to quilt to enjoy the freedom of life as we know it to be at home.Knitters, cross stitchers, doll makers, rug hookers & most crafters are welcome.

It is a non-smoking retreat center tho those who wish to smoke have a comfortable area provided out side in two covered areas. Come, relax & ENJOY with friends & make some new ones.

Show & Tell was held

Nina Delaune announced that she will be teaching her beginning quilting class at Webb Park with the starting date Thursday, Sept. 2nd from 9am til 12 noon; running 6 weeks.The cost is $50.00 payable in advance to BREC, please call Janet at their office 926-4659 & she will answer any questions you may have. There will be a $20.00 fee for an already cut kit to make a log cabin quilt. You may also contact Nina at 261-7079.
