Secretary Report and corrections were accepted as written. Treasurer Paula St. Romain delivered her report which was accepted; $26 deposit Balance $968.36. Expense $25.00 in appreciation to helper setting quilt show creation. New balance $943.36, Expense $91.56 for hardware expenses to hang quilts& thus attach show pieces to areas as needed for; current treasury balance $851.80.
Four guests were present; Lois Guidry, Naomi Holmes, Madeline Monroe and Connie Ewbank our program presenter.
Becky said the library staff called our Quilt Show and Demos “A Quilting Success”. They had many wonderful compliments on the shows beautiful quilts and colorful items displayed so artfully. Becky reported that the library had already penciled us in to do the show in August 2011. The Guild voted to agree to do another show in Aug. 2011. We now have all the mechanics and should plan now for our next show announcing; quilt size measurement to be accepted for hanging, picking quilts for show as they are seen thus allowing time for labels to be made and sleeves constructed & sewn to the top back of each quilt to be hung. Written descriptions of what each Committee Chairwoman did are to be given to Becky to be of aid to those who volunteer for 2011 Quilt Show. CONGRADULATIONS TO ALL WHO WORKED ON THE SHOW AND CONDUCTED DEMOS!!!THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
Our Sassi Stripper Quilt Guild Blogspot was discussed and ideas of what members wanted to add were discussed. Suggestion was made to put show & tell pictures on each month & Glenda Parks volunteered to be the photographer.
Ginny Hughes & Bonnie Parnell’s American Sewing Guild met Saturday Sept. 11th to power sew 49 Preemie blankets. Bonnie also made 9 bereavement blankets. Becky brought 3 preemie blankets to our meeting. A total of 52 blankets were made. This brings SSQG donation total to 108.
President Linda showed Sept. – Oct. 2010 issue of “Health Care Journal of Baton Rouge” which included a picture of our guild preemie blankets covering NICU babies at Woman’s Hospital. Nina Delaune joined a guild in Hattiesburg who made preemie blankets for a hospital & they reported “ When Mama & Daddy come it softens their baby’s isolette & they can tell
which one is their baby.”
President Linda requested that Ginny Hughes, Bonnie Parnell & Karol Guidry deliver our blankets as soon as possible to Janey Matt of Woman’s Hospital.
Madelon Mitchum was presented with 12 chemo caps made by Theresa Doran, Heidi Brochard and Betty Braud.
Connie Ewbank designer, teacher & owner of Butterfly Stitches Located in Denham Springs presented her trunk show of quilts and a list of each one shown. She has two published books & many patterns available. The guild enjoyed seeing her fine quilts & her talk which was filled with light humor & enthusiasm. A Thank you from members was given by Linda to express our appreciation for her thoughtful presentation.
Halloween fat quarters were won by Carol Mendoza.
Gift certificate from Daisy Comeaux of Cottage Creations Quilt Shop was won by Elsie Hamway.
Show & Tell was held.
Three new members joined; Madelyn Monroe, Naomi Holmes and Madelon Mitchum.
20 Members in attendance were; Ginny Hughes, Betty Braud, Jessie Comeaux, Merlene Lewis, Bonnie Parnell, Carol Mendoza, Becky Fincher, Madelon Mitchum, Paula St. Romain, Dee Jeffers, Heidi Brochard, Jan Delgehausen, Linda Baumann, Glen Parks, Valerie Valle, Charlotte Hymel, Nina Delaune, Elsie Hamway, Kathy Campo & Karol Guidry.
The paid membership in SSQG is now 32.
Our next meeting will be October 21st at 6:30 p.m.
